Gold Coast Hotel Deals by Agoda

Agoda.com, THE online hotel booking site in Asia-Pacific region, is putting together fantastic hotel deals in Australia’s Gold Coast, one of the nicest and most beautiful places on the continent to spend the year-end break.

Situated roughly halfway up Australia’s long and curving eastern coast, about 100km south of Brisbane, the Gold Coast is the sixth most populous city in Australia, with nearly 600,000 people, and the most populous non-capital in the country. Once a sleepy vacation town, it boomed in the 1980’s and is now a major hub for tourism and industry.

As is often the case, Australia has taken a well-known holiday season enjoyed throughout the western world and tweaked it with unique cultural touches.

On the Gold Coast, Santa often turns up on a surfboard instead of in a sleigh, and might even be wearing an iconic Akubra hat to shade himself from the sun. For the traditional Christmas Day meal, crowds head to some of the many restaurants along the beaches – Surfer’s Paradise, Broadbeach and Coolangatta, among others – to dine on turkey and ham. Of course, New Year’s Eve is celebrated with typical Australian fervor, and you won’t find a better place to spend the first few weeks of 2014 than a breezy Gold Coast beach.

If you’re able to, spending the holiday break on the Gold Coast is a great way to finish off the year. Get a suntan, open some presents, and say goodbye to 2013 in true Australia style.
