How to get to Singapore Zoo?

Singapore Zoo is probably one of the best tourist attraction Singapore offers to its visitors. Nested on 26 hectare wild park which is set in a larger rainforest reservation area on a peninsular in a large water reservoir, Singapore Zoo hosts many wild animals and attractions.

The easiest and most convenient way to get to the Singapore Zoo is Safari Gate. For $7 per adult and $5 per child you can get from city center to Mandai (where the Zoo is) and for $5 per adult or child from Mandai to the city. It passes through some popular and central Singapore hotels like Orchard Hotel, Marriott Hotel, Mandarin Hotel, SVC@Orchard, Orchard Plaza, Rendezvous Hotel, SAM/Carlton Hotel and Raffles City/Swissotel.

Singapore Attractions Express (SAEx®) Service is another convenient and  popular way to access Singapore Zoo. 2-way trip between city and Singapore Zoo costs $10 per adult and $5 per child and you can also only purchase one way trip. SAEx buses passes through Orchard Hotel, DFS Galeria, Sheraton Towers, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mandarin Orchard, Concorde Hotel, Hotel Rendezvous, Little India Arcade, Gemini Travel, Farrer Park MRT Station, Quality Hotel and Ibis Singapore Novena.

Singapore Zoo is deep inside Singapore island but it can be relatively easily reached by public transport network. If you are planning to go to Singapore Zoo, you need to get at minimum an MRT ride and then change to a bus to reach to the Zoo.

The nearest MRT stations to the zoo are Ang Mo Kio MRT Station (NS16) or  Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT Station (NS4/BP1) on North South Line (or the Red Line as popularly known in Singapore). If you are coming from the city, the best is Ang Moi Kio MRT Station. This station is adjacent to a bus interchange from where you need to take Bus 927. The bus you need to take from Choa Chu Kang is 138.

On Sundays and public holidays, bus 926 also buses from Marsiling MRT Station (NS8) and Woodlands MRT Station (NS9) which are also closed to the Singapore Zoo.

Another way to access Singapore Zoo is to mix public transportation and SAEx (see above) and go to Farrer Park MRT Station and then get a SAEx bus.

If you are heading Singapore Zoo by taxi, you can calculate the cost by taxi fare calculator. Currently, taxi fare calculator shows a 24 minutes taxi trip which costs 15.28 Singapore Dollars from Orchard Hotel (a central hotel) to Singapore Zoo at normal flag down fare (no peak hour).

The Trick Eye Museum at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)

The Trick Eye Museum at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is opening its doors to visitors today on June 8th 2014. And from today till June 22, ticket prices for tickets you buy at the museum's ticketing counter will be 50% discounted at $25 for adults and $20 for children and seniors.

This is the first and only overseas outlet of the Trick Eye Museum in Seoul, South Korea which was first opened to public in December 2010. The Trick Eye Museum Singapore features six theme zones (Love, Circus, Masterpiece, Safari, Fairytale and Adventure), with 80 three-dimensional paintings and optical illusion masterpieces.

The Seoul museum is located at the centre of Seoul's nouveau art hub, Hongdae, where various popular cultural events attract a stream of young art lovers. All works in Trickeye museum create illusions which allow the guests to perceive a three-dimensional object or scene. Featuring a good collection of 2D & 3D art and sculptures, the works are specially designed for photo opportunities. Consequently, these radical forms of art which require the active participation of the viewers became a draw for tourists. Trickeye has seen grown to be one of the best must-visit attractions for tourists visiting Korea.

Around 80 per cent of the exhibits in  The Trick Eye Museum at Resorts World Sentosa has not been seen in Korea says Sally Liang, Marketing Manager of Trick Eye Museum Singapore. "The Merlion piece here is one of the more unique ones created for the Trick Eye Museum Singapore."

The museum is suitable for young children with adult supervision, and even the elderly. Some exhibits allow multiple people to pose on it and the whole museum can hold up to 300 people at one time.
The exhibition is the main attraction on The Korean Strip, a mini-Korean themed 100-metre stretch. It is accessible via The Waterfront. It is located next to the Malaysian Street Food and Aston's Restaurant.

How to get to Resorts World Sentosa?

Resorts World Sentosa is one of the two integrated resorts (a casino, casino hotels and non-gambling attractions sugarcoating it). It is on Sentosa Island, a popular island resort in Singapore. Resorts World Sentosa is around 10 minutes from Singapore’s Central Business District by taxi and easily accessible via buses, MRT rail system, taxis and cars.

Getting to Resorts World Sentosa by MRT

HarbourFront MRT Station is a station on North East Line (purple line) and Circle Line (yellow line). Warning: If you are coming from a central station like Dhoby Ghaut, do not take Circle Line to get to HarbourFront MRT Station. This will make you travel through a large circle around central Singapore.

Once in HarbourFront, the most convenient and the cheapest way is to get Sentosa Express mono rail from VivoCity Shopping Mall which will take you to Resorts World Sentosa (indeed it goes all the way to the beaches of Sentosa Island). Second option is a simple and nice board walk to Resorts World Sentosa from VivoCity. The covered walk-way has a very nice view. It takes around 20 minutes to walk from VivoCity to Resorts World Sentosa. You can also take a public bus RWS 8 outside VivoCity and HarbourFront Station bus stops (2 SGD).

Taking the MRT to Resorts World Sentosa

Another way to reach RWS is Cable Car. If you take it, you will land to a hill on Sentosa which is 15 minutes walk from RWS. It is pricey but the view is great.

Getting to Resorts World Sentosa by bus
There are several public buses to Resorts World Sentosa. You can take 188R Choa Chu Kang Interchange and or any 188R bus stops or 963R from Woodlands Regional Interchange and or any 963R bus stops. There are two more buses, NR1 and NR6 which goes from Marina to Yishun and Senkang.

You can take any of the ordinary public buses numbered 65, 80, 93, 188, 855, 10, 30, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145 and 166 to VivoCity and access RWS from there.

Free bus shuttle to Tourist Shuttle to Resorts World
If you are staying in Concorde Hotel, Mandarin Orchard, Grand Hyatt, Shangri-La Hotel or Orchard Hotel, you can take a free shuttle bus to Resorts World Sentosa (see Resorts World Sentosa Shuttle Orchard Route). There is another free shuttle to RWS if you are staying in Marina Mandarin, Marina Bay Sands, Summer View, Carlton Singapore or Swissotel The Stamford (see Resorts World Sentosa Shuttle Bencoolen Marina Route).

There are tourist coaches traveling between Johor Premium Outlets and Resorts World Sentosa (2 hours).

Westgate Wonderland - The largest rooftop mall playground in Singapore

Westgate Wonderland, the largest rooftop mall playground in Singapore, will be officially opening its doors on 26th February, (Wednesday). In Westgate Wonderland, your children will be able to experience and enjoy this one-of-a-kind fantasy garden themed playarea surrounded by oversized replicas of flora and fauna, a 10-metre tall tree house, and an enormous watering can that actually sprays water!

Located on level 4 of Westgate Shopping Mall in Jurong Gateway, Westgate Wonderland is open to children of all ages and free-of-charge. Other than 10-metre tall tree house and enormous watering can, there are giant insects in beautiful detail, lily pads and flowers. It has dry and wet areas and different play zones catering to children of varying age groups. Interactive elements include: a large watering can with an active spray nozzle; musical flowers with flower bud steel drums; blue bells that respond to touch with musical sounds and lights; and large flowers with spinning canopies that create a kaleidoscope of light patterns on the ground.

Doubling the fun for the little ones is the Kids Club (西城儿童俱乐部), a supervised play area for children aged four to 12 located one floor above Westgate Wonderland on Level 5. Kids Club will offer programmed activities amidst a 4,600-square foot thematic outdoor playground and an indoor clubhouse, thus creating a lively, fun and safe environment for children. Daily activities include obstacle races and treasure hunts. Thematic educational activities will be held on the weekends, such as marine life conservation workshops run by theme park S.E.A. Resorts World Sentosa Trickeye Museum to open in 2014

Come mid-2014, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) will be home to the region’s first Trickeye Museum. This new interactive museum will be sited at the integrated resort’s Waterfront. Occupying an area of 800 square metres, the museum will feature six theme zones, with 80 three-dimensional paintings and optical illusion masterpieces.

“Trickeye” is derived from the French compound word - Trompe-l’oeil – meaning ‘trick of the eye’. Guests visiting this museum can expect paintings that stimulate creativity and imagination techniques through their vision. Not only will they see with their eyes, the museum requires the active participation of guests to become subjects within the masterpieces.

In conceptualizing the museum at RWS, Trickeye took into account some of the most remarkable aspects of the Singapore – a truly cosmopolitan city with a thriving ecosystem of nature and wildlife – and transferring them into artworks. The six zones will cover the themes of Love, Circus, Masterpiece, Safari, Fairytale and Adventure. The works displayed will also blend together cultures of East and West in interesting ways, reflecting the melting pot culture of Singapore.

Adventure Cove Waterpark Ticket Prices

This aquatic adventure park under Marine Life Park offers attractions like thrilling water slides (dueling racer, pipeline plunge, riptide rocket, spiral washout, splashworks, tidal twister and whirlpool washout), immensive experiences (Ray Bay and Rainbow Reef), Adventure River, BlueWater Bay, etc.

Since it is a new attraction, it is currently suffering over-crowding issue so if you can try to visit this attraction during non-peak days.

Adventure Cove Waterpark Day Pass allows one-day visit at Adventure Cove Waterpark for a single guest and is non-transferable and non-refundable. The price differs based on the date: peak date adult price is $33 while non-pick date adult pass is $29. For children and seniors the admission is cheaper.

Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa Ultimate Marine Encounters

Would you like to skuba-dive in Singapore without going not further than Sentosa Island?  Then you can head to Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa. Visitors to the Marine Life Park can now participate Open Ocean Dive, which allows certified divers to explore 18.2 million litre Open Ocean habitat, the Open Ocean habitat, the centrepiece and highlight of the world’s largest aquarium – S.E.A. Aquarium. This new scuba-diving programme is the first activity to debut as a part of a series of Ultimate Marine Encounters.

Open Ocean Dive is 150-minutes long and will run every day at 10:30 am. Each skuba-diving session will be for up to 4 divers and start with a 30 minute dive master guided orientation. After the first 30 minutes, divers will be able to explore the aquarium’s largest habitat swim among 50,000 fishes of more than 80 different species, including manta rays, groupers, leopard sharks and many more, in one dive location. In a sense an aquarium diving cannot beat an open sea one but where alse you can see these diversified number of species in a single dive!

Staring from 30 June 2013, Marine Life Park will also introduce Sea Trek Adventure come 30 where guests without diving certification immerse themselves into the world’s largest aquarium. The highlight
of this hour-long programme is a 20-minute underwater helmet diving experience, allowing guests to breathe with ease as they descend atop a sea mount in the Open Ocean habitat, to stand in awe of a breathtaking panoramic view of the vibrant marine life and experience the wonders of an oceanic adventure.

“Getting near these majestic marine animals has never been easier, with a hassle-free experience from drive to dive. With all gear provided, it’s only a matter of suiting up and taking the plunge,” said Mr. Craig Sowden, Chief Curator of the Marine Life Park.

Mr. Sowden added, “As guests immerse themselves in the middle of the marine ecosystems, they will encounter first-hand the relationship between marine life and humans. Through these unique experiences, we hope that our guests walk away with a deeper appreciation for marine animals and be inspired to do their part to help protect the treasures of the deep blue.”

Beyond the Open Ocean habitat, immersive experiences will also be launched at other marine habitats, including Shark Seas. Starting 15 June 2013, the new Shark Encounter will see guests come face-to-face with the apex predators of the seas. This 30-minute experience will be held thrice daily, inside the Shark Seas habitat which is home to more than 200 sharks. Guests will be descend inside a cylindrical acrylic enclosure, taking in a 360-degree view of hammerhead, sandbar, black-tip reef sharks and other shark species swimming around and beneath their feet.

SCUBA diving is now a step closer to home with the Open Ocean Dive, allowing divers to get up-close to over 50,000 marine animals representing more than 80 different species.

Shark Encounter starting on 15 June will cost S$88 per person (excluding admission to Adventure Cove Waterpark) and will last 30 minutes (15 minutes under water).

Sea Trek Adventure starting 30 June will cost S$238 (excluding admission to Adventure Cove Waterpark) and will last 60 minutes (20 minutes under water).

Singapore Flyer is a 165 meter observation wheel in Singapore which offers an unobstructed bird-eye view of  Singapore city center. Singapore Flyer is the world’s largest observation wheel. Although it does not have the best bird-eye view in the town, it definitely has the most complete. Everything including the Marina Bay Sands casino complex and city landmarks such as the skyscrapers of the Singapore Business District, Esplanade, Fullerton Hotel, etc. are in the view.

 Singapore Flyer opening hours are from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm daily and the last entry is at 10.15 pm. Singapore Jurong Bird Park Ticket Prices

Singapore Jurong Bird Park is one of the most renowned bird sanctuaries with some of the largest free-flying aviaries in the world. The park is Asia’s largest bird park with a collection of more than 5,000 birds across 380 species. One of the most famous attraction in the park is The African Waterfall Aviary which is the world's largest walk-in aviary with more than 1,500 free-flying birds from over 50 species. Visitors may hop aboard the Panorail, the world's only monorail that runs through an aviary. Jurong Falls, which is located within the African Waterfall Aviary, is the world's tallest man-made waterfall in an aviary at 30 metres high. Species include Golden-breasted Starling, turacos, and the hoopoe.

Some of the attractions in the Jurong Bird Park are High Flyers Show, Birds of Prey Show, Wetlands, Flightless Birds, Southeast Asian Birds Aviary and Pelican Cove.

Singapore River Safari Ticket Prices

Singapore River Safari, Asia's first and only river-themed wildlife park is the newest addition to Wildlife Reserve Singapore group of award winning parks. With over 5,000 aquatic and land animals representing 300 species, it is one of world's largest repositories for river dwelling animals. The park boasts a tropical rainforest setting along with as river theme with various animal attractions, theme park rides and other major exhibits.

The river themed parts will simulate the habitat in Mekong River, Congo River, Mississippi River, River Nile, Murray River, Ganges River and Yangize River. A themed boat ride called Wild Amazonia will cruise you in the wilderness and you can observe 30 animal species including the jaguar, Brazilian tapir, two-toed sloth, maned wolf and capybara.

One of the main attractions of the park is the world's largest freshwater aquarium, Amazon Floaded Forest,  that features over 18 anmal species like the graceful manatee, striking red-tailed catfish and the arapaima with its colorful, armor like scales. The Amazon adventure will be completed dy Asia's first display of the giant river otter and the red-bellied piranhas on a feeding frenzy.

But the main attraction of the River Safari probably be its 2 special guests who do not live in river. Two giant pandas, Kai Kai and Jia Jia in the The Giant Panda Forest are opened to public view on 29 November 2012 and already draws large crowds.

Journey to the Egyptian afterlife at ArtScience Museum with Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb

For the first time in Singapore and Southeast Asia, the secrets of the mysterious Egyptian burial practices and mummification process will be revealed in technologically-advanced detail with the arrival of Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb at ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands.

Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb is an exhibition pairing mummies and artifacts culled from the extensive and famed Egyptian collection of the British Museum with an innovative 3D film experience. It will make its Singapore debut beginning 27 April 2013.

The centrepiece of Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb is Nesperennub, a temple priest who lived 3,000 years ago and died at about the age of 40. The mummy of Nesperennub is an integral part of the exhibition and will be prominently displayed. Additionally, a groundbreaking 3D film capturing the “virtual unwrapping” of the Egyptian mummy will be displayed in concert with Nesperennub. Narrated by acclaimed actor Patrick Stewart, the film unveils the story of the priest‟s life and death, complete with a digital reconstruction of his facial structure.

The mummy of Nesperennub remains in its original cartonnage coffin and has never been opened. The “virtual unwrapping” that is captured in stunning 3D is made possible thanks to the most advanced and cutting-edge scanning technology used in modern medicine. As a result, there are more details now known about Nesperennub‟s life and death, and images of him as he likely looked 3,000 years ago and in his current mummified state that are vivid and breathtaking. Most amazingly, these brilliant graphics and new data were retrieved without opening the coffin or disturbing the wrappings of Nesperennub.

Journey to the Egyptian afterlife at  ArtScience Museum with Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb

Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb will showcase more than 100 stunning artifacts and six mummies in total. Included in the artifacts is a statuette of the Egyptian god Amun-Ra in bronze from 664-305 BC. According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, Amun (which means "the hidden one") was merged with the sun-god Ra to acquire the status of supreme creatordeity, the King of the Gods. This bronze statuette shows the god in human form, wearing his characteristic twin-feathered headdress. Also included is a figurine of the god Seth dating back to 1295-1069 BC. Seth represented the forces of chaos and disorder as well as the
personification of evil in ancient Egypt. This rare figurine of Seth depicts him with a distinctive curving snout.

Among the other mummies on display in the exhibition is the mummy of Tjayasetimu. A singer in the temple of Amun, Tjayasetimu died when she was still a child, around 800 BC. Her carefully embalmed body has been enclosed in a cartonnage case representing her with the golden face of a divine being, and with her hands, feet and arms partly freed from the traditional mummy wrappings. Also present in the exhibition are mummies of animals, such as that of a kitten and an Ibis bird from the Roman Period (after 30 BC).

In keeping with ArtScience Museum‟s commitment to providing interactive programming, Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb will deliver a host of engaging and hands-on opportunities for visitors of all ages to enhance their exhibition experience. This includes an interactive Embalming Workshop which complements the exhibition‟s detailed look at ancient Egyptian beliefs and practices related to the afterlife. The workshop will shed light on the various steps and rituals that comprised the embalming, mummification, and cartonnage procedures of the time.

Family visitors will also be able to take part in a specially-designed exhibition quest through age-appropriate activity bags containing a host of engaging activities and tools directly related to the artifacts on display. Among these are jigsaw puzzles, creative games, and magnifying glasses to help young Egyptologists complete various challenges. The activity bags are made available to visitors during their stay within Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb and are complimentary for ticket-holders.

Together with the detailed look at the mummification process and wide array of rare artifacts and mummies, the exhibition will explore the mysterious rituals of life, death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt. In total, Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb will allow visitors a rare, detailed, interactive and technologically-advanced glimpse into the ancient Egyptian civilisation unlike anything presented in Singapore and Southeast Asia previously.

The Art of the Brick exhibition extended at ArtScience Museum

Originally slated to close on 14 April, The Art of The Brick exhibition has been extended to 26 May 2013 due to overwhelming response. Visitors who have not had the opportunity to witness one of acclaimed brick artist Nathan Sawaya’s most impressive works – a six-meter-long T-Rex skeleton that took three months to complete –will now have a chance to do so.


A new puppetry workshop that complements Sawaya’s creative showcase will also be introduced with the exhibition’s extension. Based on the exhibits in The Art of the Brick, children of all ages will be able to make their own shadow puppets at The Art of Play gallery every Sunday from March to May 2013. In conjunction with the new workshop, The Art of the Brick will continue to offer visitors a chance to take part in two well-received workshops through the exhibit. Playing with Patterns is a colourful workshop that provides instruction on how to use LEGO® bricks to create a variety of print patterns on different surfaces. Also
offered is a stop motion workshop that allows visitors to write, direct and produce their own 15-second stop motion film inspired by the works on display in The Art of the Brick.


The various galleries within the exhibition provide a number of interactive opportunities that engage all visitors. Among these are: RAIN, a brick-building station where visitors can construct a 3-dimensional raindrop from LEGO® bricks; Shadow Play!, an area for individuals to strike a pose and cast a silhouette shadow relevant to the work on display; and Mosaic Portraits, a kiosk that allows visitors to create a mosaic portrait of themselves using a unique digital photo application.

Universal Studios Singapore to open World’s First Sesame Street Immersive Theme Park Ride

Universal Studios Singapore will debut the world’s first fully immersive Sesame Street indoor themed ride , on 1 March 2013. Bringing the world’s  longest-running  and most beloved  children’s television program to life, the indoor themed ride named Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase will feature a zany science-fiction inspired plot, coupled with signature Sesame Street comedic style and music. Guests onboard this high-flying adventure will find themselves fully immersed in fun surroundings and special effects, alongside their favorite friends from Sesame Street.


Celebrating the launch of the ride, the park will host a special Sesame Street Carnival from 1 to 3 March 2013. New York Street will be transformed into an extension of Sesame Street, bringing park guests a weekend of fun and excitement. Highlights of the carnival include giant board games along the street, special carts offering Sesame Street items, as well as even more opportunities to catch the park’s Sesame Street shows and character meet-and-greets.

Kick-starting the story are three brand new characters, “Macaroni the Merciless” and his partners–in-crime, “Zester” and “Shredder”. Created exclusively for this ride, these gluttonous super villains are well underway in their plot to steal all spaghetti and noodles on Earth.

Guests will be zipped off into the Sesame Street universe as they get enlisted, together with Elmo, to be  Super Sidekicks of  Super Grover, in an attempt to stop Macaroni the Merciless and return all stolen spaghetti and noodles to the children on Earth.

Completing the Sesame Street experience at Universal Studios Singapore, an all-new Sesame Street Character Breakfast at Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor has also been launched. The largest collection of Magnum photographs on exhibit in Singapore, a total of 143 pieces, is extending its stay in the Lion City. Originally scheduled to end its run on 6 January 2013, Outside In: A Magnum Photos Showcase will now extend until 17 March 2013. Outside In: A Magnum Photos Showcase includes the works of three internationally accomplished photographers – Stuart Franklin, Mark Power and Jacob Aue Sobol – and members of Magnum Photos, the photographic cooperative that is celebrating its 65th anniversary through this commemorative showcase.

Aspiring student photographers, seasoned photography professionals, and complete beginners can also embark on their own journey of discovery with the new PhotoLab gallery and workspace unveiled by ArtScience Musuem. PhotoLab is Singapore’s first professional photography gallery and workspace, including a fully functional darkroom, contained within a museum exhibit.

The PhotoLab gallery explores the history, development and processes of film and digital photography. Visitors can learn about the tools of the trade as well as see firsthand historic and contemporary exhibits that include a Kodak Brownie camera (1920) and the Apple Quicktake 100 (1994) – the first camera to connect to a computer. The gallery additionally provides tactile opportunities with a mini camera obscura, a photographer’s lightbox and loupe, and negative film of different formats and sizes. Interactive activities available at the gallery also include the chance to star in a personal Peranakan-style portrait.

Meanwhile, two hands-on workshops are currently being conducted through PhotoLab on Wednesday evenings, during the weekends, and on select weekdays during the Lunar New Year. In Darkroom Developments, participants gain insight from a professional photographer in the process of enlarging and developing black and white photos in a darkroom. The second workshop - ArtScience of Photography – introduces participants to basic darkroom techniques and how to create a photographic image without using a camera.

JCube ice skating: The Rink

Ice skating in Singapore is not something you would think of something to do in this tropic country but there is a large olympic-size ice scating facility you can use to escape the never ending hot weather. Rink @ JCube, the first and only Olympic-size ice rink in Singapore, is in a malle named JCube which is located at the western part of Singapore. The Rink offers a 460 seat gallery and Singapore’s only rink-side dining experience.

Gardens by the Bay Singapore Ticket Prices

Gardens by the Bay, a 101 hectares park famous with its super trees and two cooled conservatories, is the newest addition to the places to visit in Singapore.  The park consist of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden. The main attractions in the park are two cooled conservatories, The Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, and super trees.

Admission to the Outdoor Gardens in Bay South is free. Theare are several attractions you need to buy ticket to go in. Two cooled conservatories need admission. The elevated walkway, the OCBC Skyway, between two of the larger Supertrees for visitors to have aerial view of the Gardens needs ticket. And there is also a  Garden Cruiser Trail. You can hop onto the Garden Cruiser tram and go on a 20 minute ride around Bay South Garden. Tune in to informative commentary as you take in the views of the Cooled Conservatories, Themed Gardens, the Meadow and the Supertree Grove. This also requires ticket.
