Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa Siem Reap

The Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa in Siem Reap, the very first hotel of Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas in Cambodia, pays tribute to Khmer tradition and culture throughout every touch point. The resort is shaped to resemble Angkor Wat and at ground level it is reminiscent of a grand Khmer villa with a courtyard pool inspired by an ancient royal bathing pool. Each stone pillar at the resort has meticulously carved fans which represent a royal welcome and the Khmer wooden carvings throughout the resort showcase the country’s rich history.

The collection of 39 guest rooms and suites of between 48 and 140 square metres are designed in contemporary Cambodian style, with handcrafted teak wood furniture, rich textiles and a unique local artwork. All include a private balcony overlooking the central courtyard pool, as well as a lounge space and a luxury bathroom with a separate bathtub and rain shower.

Royal Deluxe Rooms invite guests to relive the lifestyle of a traditional Khmer home with an outdoor shower and traditional bathing jar. Prestigious Sothea Suites on the ground floor feature a private garden and those on the second level a large balcony, and all of these suites offer a private library which can convert into a lounge, dining room or meeting space, as well as a bathroom area with his and hers closets, twin vanity units, a rain shower and water closet, and also an en-suite spa room with two treatment beds and a whirlpool Jacuzzi bath.

In between cultural exploration, quiet time can be spent relaxing on loungers or swimming in the regally inspired salt water pool. Extending the feeling of royal treatment, Anantara Spa offers indulgent pampering in a tranquil sanctuary that features three spa suites with an outdoor Jacuzzi and rain shower, two Khmer massage rooms and a foot massage room for four people. Signature rituals include traditional Khmer massage performed by expert therapists, accompanied by an extensive  treatment menu of rejuvenating scrubs and wraps, personally prescribed facials and healing massages, as well as carefully crafted packages and yoga in a rooftop garden.

Guests setting out early for an excursion can enjoy a sunrise breakfast at The Gallery and for lunch it offers international cuisine, as well as the unique flavours of authentic Khmer dishes which are influenced by cuisines from across the Indochina region. A poolside menu is also available. Sophisticated evenings take place at The Sothea Restaurant, where inside the restaurant brass chandeliers recreated by master craftsmen depict the “chats” - or umbrellas in Khmer Buddhism - which are believed to offer divine protection to royalty. Dining is equally meaningful, with international and Khmer dishes inspired by the day’s fresh market produce, and savoured with dance and music performances. For tailor made occasions, Dining by Design journeys include a private chef and butler, a choice of connoisseur menus, and a courtyard setting amongst fragrant frangipani trees and cascading water.

Interactive elements add to the gastronomic appeals. Khmer cooking classes at Anantara’s Spice Spoons Cooking School begin with a local market visit, after which students return to the resort to hear about Khmer cuisine’s fascinating history and unique techniques, before learning to cook their selected dishes, enjoying a chef hosted meal, and leaving with a shopping bag full of culinary accessories. Combining Anantara’s gourmet cuisine with a true destination experience, guests can travel by tuk-tuk to Angkor Thom and picnic in historic grounds. While culture lovers can benefit from the insider knowledge of Anantara’s Streetwise Guru during a private local market tour.

York Hotel Singapore near Orchard Road

Singapore hotels are expensive and the most expensive ones (in USD 200 ++ range) are on or near Orchard Road and in Marina Bay Area. Still, there are some very nice mid-level hotels (USD 100 - USD 200) around Orchard Road if you are willing to walk a little.

York Hotel on 21 Mount Elizabeth is one such hotel shinning as one of the best mid-range hotel right next to Orchard Road. The prime location of the hotel allows you to walk to Orchard Road MRT Station in just 5 - 10 minutes. The usual non-peak season price for the York Hotel is around USD 150 which is hard to come by in such a prime Singapore location (these are online reservation prices not reception desk prices. For latest discounts, special offers and prices for the hotel check York Hotel Singapore Agoda Page).

York Hotel Singapore appeals to both business and leisure travelers. Orchard Road MRT Station is just a few stops away from Singapore's Central Business District and Orchard Road itself offers many dinning, night life and shopping options. Besides, bus services to many attractions like Singapore Night Safari, Resorts World Sentosa or Singapore Zoo passes through Orchard Road.

The hotel offers 407 rooms in York Suite, Deluxe Suites, Deluxe Rooms, Superior Rooms and Balinese-themed Cabanas. Facilities of the hotel include an outdoor swimming pool, an outdoor Jacuzzi, fitness center, business center and hair salon.

And here is the experience: The location of York Hotel is its best feature. 5 minutes walk and you are on Orchard Road (near Paragon) and a little bit more you are at MRT Station. The service and the personnel are cold but still OK if you do not mind it. The hotel is clean and simple. The rooms are boring and like many aging central Singapore hotels the facilities and rooms show their age and needs an upgrade. Having said that the rooms (Superior Rooms in this case) are quite functional. The breakfast is very simple and the tea and coffee was not good. I would breakfast somewhere else but if you need Western breakfast than you do not have many options outside other than fast food chains.

York Hotel Singapore's main asset is its location near Orchard Road.
The rooms do not have free WI-FI and the WI-FI prices are super-expensive. If you will stay a few days and more, go and get 1GB 1 Week Smartphone card from an operator and use it as hotspot for your computer.

This is definitely not the best hotel option in that price range in Singapore if you really want to stay in a central location like Orchard Road and do not mind an aging hotel, York Hotel is there for you. If not, head to Bugis Area where you can find Ibiz Bencoolen, which I believe the best centrally located Singapore hotel in USD 100 - USD 200 price range. The advantage of York Hotel against some other hotels in this price range is its swimming pool which is quite functional in the hot and humid Singapore stay.

SkyBar
Perched on the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel, this perennial favourite of KL’s party people has emerged from its chrysalis with two gleaming new bars, a revamped seating area and a culinary bay for food preparation.
The signature 26m-long pool remains the undisputed centrepiece of SkyBar, an oasis of blue amidst the polished glass and steel fittings.
In the day time, the afternoon sun plays hide and seek with the blinds, brilliant shafts of light spearing into the calm, cool bar interior. Overhead, the Big Ass fan whirrs lazily, and as you sip your refreshing Mojito, all is well with the world.

Come 6:00 pm and this calm in the midst of chaotic KL vamps up in preparation for a night of revelry. With the setting sun as a backdrop, couples slide into the updated intimate cabanas, fingers entwined as they
share a bottle of champagne or indulge in a cocktail or two. The droves are drawn in, their fancy frocks and smart suits a perfect match for the sophisticated evening ahead. Sinking into the plump cushions of the sofas,
they feast their eyes on the breath-taking views of the glittery KL skyline, dominated by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The high chairs and tables which seat four play home to more casual party-goers, popping in for an after-work drink or catching up with old friends.

The Century Pines Resort Cameron Highlands Malaysia Review

Away from the hustle and bustle of big cities like Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Cameron Highlands offers a perfect mountain getaway for those looking for an escape from never ending tropic heat. Tanah Rata is the biggest town in Cameron Highlands and has the most number of facilities and amenities.

The Century Pines Resort is situated in Tanah Rata and houses 153 snug guestrooms with comfortable modern facilities, providing a suitable getaway for vacationers looking for a cooler climate retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. In The Right Room episode below, , find comfort in the great outdoors of Cameron Highlands, Malaysia, where they relish in the fresh pine-scented mountain air. The enthusiastic pair then visit attractions which the whole family will enjoy, such as a tea plantation and a strawberry farm near the resort.

Some of the modern facilities in The Century Pines Resort includes a SPA and a restaurant serving local and international food.

Room Review
The rooms do not have aircon but instead they have a central air ventilation system which serves the natural pine cleaned fresh air of Cameron Highlands into the rooms. The rooms are designed like a mountain hotel room with wooden floors, water-colored wood carvings on the walls. The room has a TV, a nice and comfortable couch in front of the windows.

The single beds are super-single so they are wider than your typical single hotel beds. The bed is firmer than usual and comes with only one pillow but there are some spare pillows in the wardrobe.

The bathroom is large and clean. Interesting thing about it is that the bathroom is divided into compartments which will avoid family queues in the morning.

Cameron Highlands
Being in the mountains, Cameron Highlands has a quite cool weather for a location in tropics. The weather here can be seen as eternal spring where the temperature pattern is similar to a spring day in a typical 4-season climate.

In Cameron Highlands it is a must to visit one of the tea plantations. There are several of them around the hotel. The views here are picture perfect and great to take outdoor photos. Another must in Cameron Highlands is to visit strawberry farms where you can pick the freshest strawberries with prices you cannot get anywhere else.

The hotel and Cameron Highlands offer a nice family oriented getaway from cities which will also provide a great break from the tropical heat in Malaysia and Singapore.

Capella Singapore on Sentosa Island Review

Capella Singapore on Sentosa Island is one of the most luxurious resorts in Singapore, an island state which has grown to be a luxurious travel hub. The hotel is on Sentosa Island, the most expensive island to stay in South East Asia.  The hotel is situated in a lush greenery which will make you forget that you are right next to the center of one of the most developed and crowded cities on the planet.

The hotel features 112 spacious guest rooms, suites, manors and villas, many of which overlook the South China Sea or offers views of the city.

In the episode of The Right Room you can watch below, Adam and Kelly from Asia Rooms explore Capella Singapore to see if this resort in Sentosa lives up to its reputation as being one of the most luxurious hotels in Singapore. They stay in Garden View Suite.

Room Review
Wow is the word describing the rooms in Capella Singapore. The view is just awesome. A centralized remote control handles everything from the curtains to lights so you can just control everything in the room without living your ultra comfortable bed. A large couch in front of floor-to-ceiling window and a comfortable and functional business desk both have a fantastic Singapore skyline view. The beds are quite large. The single beds are larger than super single which is very good for tall and big fellas.

A large TV whose angel can be adjusted, iPhone dock, sound system with speakers all around the room and an expensive coffee machine are some of the modern amenities you can find in the Garden View Suite of Capella Singapore on Sentosa Island. There is free WI-FI access in the room.

The large and modern bathroom with double sinks (so you do not need to wait in the queue in the morning), a massive wardrobe, rain shower and a bath tub with magnificent view offers ultimate luxury.

Sentosa Island

Designed for fun, there are many things to do on Sentosa Island, where Capella Singapore is located. One of Singapore’s two integrated resorts (casino covered with dining, entertainment and activities), Resorts World Sentosa, is nearby which offers a large aquarium, casino, Universal Studios Singapore and a large water park. Other than that there are many activities on the beaches where you can swim and many dining options.
For those who are into shopping, Singapore’s largest shopping mall, VivoCity, is just a mono-rail ride away on the shores of main Singapore island right other side of Sentosa.

Facilities
The pool in Capella Singapore is just awesome place to end a tiring tropic day and it is highly suggested to be there to catch the sunset. A large conference room, a luxurious SPA (Auriga at Capella Singapore SPA), fitness center, restaurants (Chinese cuisine at Cassia, a leisurely meal at The Knolls, an all-day Mediterranean restaurant or unwind after a long day at Bob’s Bar where guests while overlooking Singapore’s breathtaking sunset) and a library is there for you to enjoy your stay.

My Fair Lady Musical in Singapore

Henry Higgins, Eliza Doolittle and the rest of the iconic characters from MY FAIR LADY will transform the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands to 1912 London in this Broadway Classic. Hailed as the standard by which all other musicals are judged, BASE Entertainment Asia brings this international treasure, upon which the classic 1964 Audrey Hepburn movie was based, to Singapore on February 11 2014 for a limited season. Tickets are now on sale.

Based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1912 play Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY will transport audiences to Edwardian London and one of the most beautiful stories ever told about language and clash of cultures. It follows the relationship between Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, and the snobbish and misogynistic Professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, who wagers that he can turn Eliza into a “proper lady’ in three months’ time. Those who experience MY FAIR LADY will be enchanted by this tale of triumph of the human spirit, as well as the love story that emerges between two unlikely heroes, ultimately joined together by their fascination with the English language.

When the show first opened on Broadway in 1956, starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, critics described it a “legendary” and “one of the greatest musicals of the century.” MY FAIR LADY went on to win six TONY Awards, and, in 1961, became the longest-running production in Broadway history at that time.

My Fair Lady Musical in Singapore
My Fair Lady Musical in Singapore
MY FAIR LADY features book and lyrics by Alan Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, and includes the classic songs “The Rain In Spain,” Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “Get Me To The Church On Time.” Often called “the perfect musical,” MY FAIR LADY is an unforgettable experience with beautiful music and exquisite costumes that will remind theatre-goers as to why musical theatre was born.

The National Tour of MY FAIR LADY features Aurora Florence as Eliza Doolittle; Chris Carsten as Henry Higgins; Daniel Cardenes as Freddy Eynsford-Hill; Ricard Springle as Colonel Pickering; and Arthur Wise as Alfred P. Doolittle.

Tickets for My Fair Lady Musical starts from $95 excluding the booking fee of SGD$3 per ticket.
