Henry Higgins, Eliza Doolittle and the rest of the iconic characters from MY FAIR LADY will transform the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands to 1912 London in this Broadway Classic. Hailed as the standard by which all other musicals are judged, BASE Entertainment Asia brings this international treasure, upon which the classic 1964 Audrey Hepburn movie was based, to Singapore on February 11 2014 for a limited season. Tickets are now on sale.
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1912 play Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY will transport audiences to Edwardian London and one of the most beautiful stories ever told about language and clash of cultures. It follows the relationship between Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, and the snobbish and misogynistic Professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, who wagers that he can turn Eliza into a “proper lady’ in three months’ time. Those who experience MY FAIR LADY will be enchanted by this tale of triumph of the human spirit, as well as the love story that emerges between two unlikely heroes, ultimately joined together by their fascination with the English language.
When the show first opened on Broadway in 1956, starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, critics described it a “legendary” and “one of the greatest musicals of the century.” MY FAIR LADY went on to win six TONY Awards, and, in 1961, became the longest-running production in Broadway history at that time.
My Fair Lady Musical in Singapore
MY FAIR LADY features book and lyrics by Alan Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, and includes the classic songs “The Rain In Spain,” Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “Get Me To The Church On Time.” Often called “the perfect musical,” MY FAIR LADY is an unforgettable experience with beautiful music and exquisite costumes that will remind theatre-goers as to why musical theatre was born.
The National Tour of MY FAIR LADY features Aurora Florence as Eliza Doolittle; Chris Carsten as Henry Higgins; Daniel Cardenes as Freddy Eynsford-Hill; Ricard Springle as Colonel Pickering; and Arthur Wise as Alfred P. Doolittle.

While Clopin, the leader of the refugees or underclass, and Gringoire the poet will try to save Esmeralda.
The musical spectacular is the creation of lyricist Luc Plamondon and composer Richard Cocciante, whom have both won numerous awards for their work and is directed by Gilles Maheu. “It’s a well-known story which stands up on its own and doesn’t need to be explained. That’s why there
area at least a dozen films based on the Victor Hugo novel, from the silent era to the recent Disney animation,” said Luc Plamandon.
Reminiscent of The Beauty and the Beast and presaging The Phantom of the Opera, Notre Dame de Paris remains a poignant and powerful myth with some of the interwoven storylines being more relevant today than ever: asylum-seekers, racism, the role of religion, the fear of the unknown and man’s place in an ever-changing world.
Riccardo Cocciante beautiful melodies will leave a long lasting impression on local audiences. Featuring more than 54 vivid arias of operatic beauty and rock resonance, the characters are brought to life through stunning vocal performances and visual spectacle – courtesy of the show’s seven principal artistes and 24 dancers and acrobats.
The show will feature acrobatic contemporary dance choreography by Martino Muller, renowned modern dance visionary, contrasting with a beautiful love story moments to create an audience experience reminiscent of French cirque. Dancers appear to be flying across the stage under fantastic arcs, freely incorporating gymnastics, contemporary and even break dance moves into their repertoire – at one moment whirling across the floor in a series of pirouettes, and the next tumbling from a bungee rope high above the stage.
The show will be presented on a grand scale at the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. The modern impressionistic stage set features a 12 metre high ‘climbing wall’ representing the façade of the grand cathedral of Notre Dame as well as the famous Bastille prison in Paris. This amazing edifice is also
the platform for a series of stunning acrobatic routines that will leave the audience breathless.
Notre Dame de Paris, the musical spectacular, stands out because of the masterful staging and artistic integrity of director Gilles Maheu, who has revived the 170-year old with contemporary touches and deft inspiration incorporating choreographies by Martino Muller and costumes designed by Fred Sathal and set by Christian Ratz.
The English language album, featuring the main stars of the London production, also features guest star Celine Dion singing “Live for the One I Love”.
Hit musical, rock-show, opera, concept-album or gothic melodrama, Notre-Dame de Paris retains traditional theatrical elements while using modern staging techniques and choreography to present eternal, universal, mythical tales and themes.

Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix 2013 Entertainment
First Padang Stage headliner announced for 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is the Las Vegas alternative rock band THE KILLERS which will perform post-qualifying on Saturday, 21 September 2013. The multi award-winning, multi-platinum band is set to ignite the Padang stage in their first ever concert in Singapore for one night only. Entry to the concert is included with any three-day 2013 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX ticket.
The award-winning film Sex.Violence.FamilyValues was banned by the Singapore government in 2012 for its allegedly "racially offensive" content. But following a successful appeal by its producers, the film was released in Singapore on March 14, 2013. According to yahoo.sg, the 47 minutes long made-in-Singapore anthology of 3 short stories has already chalked up a healthy S$10,000 on its opening weekend:
Previously banned, the local film sparked debate when the Media Development Authority (MDA) revoked the licence of the film less than a week before its original release last year. Now it will now get an extended run at Cathay for one additional week following sturdy box-office sales.
“The fact that the number of audiences has made Cathay expand screenings is obviously nice to me as a filmmaker,” Kwek told Yahoo! Singapore over the phone.
Several scenes in the movie prompted Media Development Authority to review and ban the movie. In one of them, in short movie named ‘Porn Masala’, a scene shows a Chinese director played by Adrian Pang lets loose racial jibes at an Indian actor played by Vadi PVSS.
J-pop group AKB48 will perform live in Singapore on April 2013 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. The Japanese girl group which has 88 members, ranging in age from 13 to mid-20s, will be here for the Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore from 12 to 14 April 2013.
Tickets to the Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore are now available on its Facebook page. Each purchase gives you a chance to redeem limited priority tickets for a special meet-the-fans session over and above the concert.
AKB48 holds the Guinness World Record for being the world's "largest pop group". The idea of AKB48's producer Yasushi Akimoto was to create a girl group that, unlike a regular pop group, which gives occasional concerts and that is mostly seen on TV, would have its own theater and perform there on a daily basis; the fans would always be able to go and see the girls live. Having several teams not only allows the group to reduce the load on its members, since a daily concert at the theater is given by only one team, but also gives AKB48 opportunity to perform in several places and even countries simultaneously.
AKB48 still performs at the theater every day; tickets are now distributed only via a lottery. AKB48 is named after Akihabara (Akiba for short), the area in Tokyo where the group's theater is located.
