Boy threatens to bombs in Marina Bay Sands in his Facebook

UPDATE: The 13 years old boy is arrested who allegedly threatened to plant bombs in Marina Bay Sands. Police said the case is classified as a Breach of Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts. He cannot be named as he is a minor.

2012 will be remembered by a lot of things in Singapore but it will also be remembered as the year some foreign talents or "Boyforeign talents to be" gone wild year. We have opened the year with a Chinese "foreign talent to be" Sun Xu who called Singaporeans "dogs" on his Weibo account and was closing it with a Filipino foreign talent named Carlos Pestano The Third, who called some Singaporeans "rotten locals" on Facebook. But then this came: According to Singapore media, a boy claims to be from New Delhi, threatened to take "big revenge" on Singapore by planting bombs in Marina Bay Sands and spitting everywhere before he leaves the country. He also made derogatory remarks about the country.

These comments that a boy posted on Facebook have drawn flak from netizens, prompting one of them to lodge a police report after seeing a screengrab of the post on The Real Singapore's Facebook page last Saturday. According to his Facebook profile page - which was taken down yesterday afternoon - the boy claims to be from New Delhi, and received his education at Global Indian International School in Queenstown.
The school's website states that it takes in students from primary- school level to junior college. From his profile photo, he looks to be in his teens.

Baby SPA in Singapore

We adults like SPA, swimming and massage. What about the young ones? I men the very young ones. If there is a chance, wouldn't be good for them to enjoy swimming and massage. If you have a 1 to 24 months old baby, you live in Singapore or visiting Singapore, you can take him/her to Baby SPA in Singapore.

Baby SPA, as the name suggests, is a SPA for babies up to 24 months old. There are baby SPA's in various locations in Singapore: Northpoint Mall, Plaza Singapura, NEX Mall (Serangoon), Harbourfront Centre, Changi Point City Mall and Marine Parade Central. The branches offer baby swimming (in individual pools for 1 to 12 months old or big pools for up to 4 babies aged 1 to 2 years old), baby massage and baby haircut. The demand must be good because they are opening one branch after another in the past few years.

They have several packages to try. A non-member trial/one time for baby swimming is $38 and baby massage is $17. For members, they have 10 and 20 sessions packages for baby swimming and a golden card which secures 1 year unlimited pool fun for your baby.

We have actually tried Baby SPA in Dhoby Ghaut. Unfortunately, we have brought our then 3 months old daughter to the SPA when she was hungry and she has spent most of her time in the water crying. I think, 3 months is also quite young to try. Anyway, the handlers are quite friendly, professional and the one helping us particularly seemed to have a honest love for babies.

If you worry about the cold, Baby SPA uses warmed water in their tanks and each baby swims in their own small pool. They also say that the pool water are sterilized.

BabySPA is quite popular in Singapore. According to theasianparent.com, 10,000 babies have been trained in their BabySpa since it was opened in October 2008. They are expanding fast with recently opening two new branches : Katong V #03-18/17 @ 30 East Coast Rd (opp. Parkway Parade) and Westgate #04-34 @ Jurong East.

Thailand’s largest island, Phuket, was next, followed by China’s Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, the former known for its vibrant architecture and world-class food, and the latter famous for its massive casinos and Portuguese/Chinese cuisine.

Malaysia among World’s Top 10 Tourism Destinations

Malaysia is listed among World’s Top 10 Tourism Destinations by international tourist arrivals of United Nations World Trade Organisation (UNWTO) Tourism Highlights 2012. It has also been the only country in South East Asia to make the top 10, scoring surprisingly better than Thailand. UNWTO ranks countries according to the two key tourism indicators – international tourist arrivals and international tourism
receipts. Although Malaysia was ranked in top 10 for international arrivals, in terms of international tourism receipts it was 14th.

The ranking did not change a lot compared to last year, except Turkey climbed one place to 6th in World’s Top Tourism Destinations List pushing UK to 7th position. World’s Top 10 Tourism Destinations By International Arrival

1 - France (79.5 million)
2 - United States (62.3 million)
3 - China (57.6 million)
4 - Spain (56.7 million)
5 - Italy (46.1 million)
6 - Turkey (29.3 million)
7 - United Kingdom (29.2 million)
8 - Germany (28.4 million)
9 - Malaysia (24.7 million)
10 - Mexico (23.4 million)

Malaysia offers something for every traveler from luxurious to budget hotels, great samples of Chinese, Indian and Malay cuisine, shopping to relaxed tropical island getaway.  The country has a high-tech infrastructure and things generally work well and more or less on schedule. And prices remain more or less reasonable.

Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
But there is one lucky factor which is inflating Malaysia tourist arrival numbers: Singapore. The residents of this small and rich island nation makes up majority of international tourist arrivals to Malaysia. For example, A total of 11,632,483 tourists visited Malaysia for the first six months of 2012 and 5,832,330 or almost 50% came from Singapore. Since Singapore is a very small city state, many residents regularly travel to Malaysia, especially to Johor for food, shopping, entertainment and sometimes holiday (some people goes there every week to fill-up the tank and are probably counted as international arrivals again and again). The arrivals to Malaysia from Singapore in first 6 months of 2012 are more than the population of Singapore!

Is this Delhi rapist Ram Singh on TV show Aap Ki Kachehri?

The identities of horrific Delhi rape-torture and murder case has been revealed a few days after the incident. One man named Ram Singh seems to stand out as the mastermind. Who is the alleged rapist Ram Singh? According to various reports, he is a school bus driver, according to his neighbours a dark man called "mental" and according to some media sources he is the man in the below video! Ram Singh has been in  the news way back in 2011. According to  Daily Pioneer , appeared on Kiran Bedi’s popular show Aap Ki Kachehri, Season III where he has demanded compensation for an arm he lost in a bus accident in 2009.

At the end of the show, Ram failed to get the compensation he was demanding from his employer Ganga Dutt, who has tagged him a habitual offender and a rash driver. “He was drunk and driving and injured his left arm. He now drives with one hand only,” Ram Singh’s neighbour tells you at the Ravidas Camp in RK Puram from where four of the six offenders in the bus rape case live:
“Ram Singh and his family, his neighbour adds, were infamous in the settlement as trouble-makers. Ram had earlier run away with a neighbour’s wife who was mother to three daughters. The woman died mysteriously soon afterwards and no one has heard of her daughters ever since. Another neighbour said it was surprising that a man with only one functional hand was allowed to drive a school bus.
Source :  Neighbours not surprised at what Ram Singh did
The Episode called Ram Singh vs Ganga Dutt is on YouTube and the man in the video is allegedly the rapist Ram Singh. The neighbour is quite right: If this is the rapist, despite his involvement in a serious accident and serious disability in arm, how the hell he was let to drive a school bus!

According to the uploader, Ram Singh, the bus driver, who is shown in this episode
is involved in Delhi Gang Rape and reported as the main accused

The Police says that the alleged rapist showed no remorse and their body language tells that they do not seem to think they did something wrong. This makes police to think that this may not be their first case but may be the first time they have been arrested on rape:
"An investigator said that despite the fact that they were involved in torture, they are not showing any remorse or regret. They appear to be normal, as if they have done nothing wrong. Their body language and the behavior during sustained interrogation has stunned the investigators who now suspect their involvement in other criminal activities.  “First timers never behave like this,” he added.
It is more likely that some cases may have never been reported and that had emboldened them. Investigators said the accused were insolent, behaving as if the crime has not affected them. Ram Singh, the main accused who was arrested Monday, goes about his routine unmoved by the plight of his victim, policemen said.
Police have yet to come across a case lodged against Ram Singh, but investigators say they will not be surprised if it turns out that the man has a criminal history. Ram Singh’s elder brother Rajesh was convicted in a robbery case and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail; his younger brother, Mukesh, is a co-accused in the case."

India gang-rape victim dies in Singapore

A young Indian woman who was beaten, tortured and gang-raped by 6 animals died today in Singapore. She has been in critical condition since Christmas Day and with was flown to Singapore more than a day ago. She "passed away peacefully" with her family and officials of the Indian Embassy by her side, Dr Kevin Loh, the chief executive of Mount Elizabeth hospital, said in a statement (Peacefully ?!? Are you sure about it?).

After the brutal attack, 23 years old woman suffered a brain injury, had to have both her small and large intestines removed, and was battling an infection in her lungs. She had three abdominal operations and a heart attack following the gang rape and was described as “practically dead” when she was admitted into the hospital. After 10 days at a hospital in the Indian capital of New Delhi, where the attack occurred, the victim was brought on Thursday to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth hospital. Since arrival, the woman had remained in extremely critical condition and unfortunately by late Friday her condition had taken a turn for the worse and her vital signs had deteriorated.

India is the forth most dangerous place to be born as a woman (top 5 are Afghanistan, Congo, Pakistan, India and Somalia!). In fact before birth, it is a very dangerous place to be fertilized as female in the womb where sex selective abortion is a real problem. In fact this rape culture in some man is probably an extension of not valuing the woman at all.

Addressing this cultural issue is an urgent thing to do for Indian government. But minds will not change overnight even in a generation. So until the minds change, the government should ensure that the rapist will know their lifes will be raped if they rape a woman. Both of these are missing now. According to media, after the horrific incident, the rapists (the bus driver Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma (an assistant gym instructor), Pawan Gupta (a fruit seller) and a so-called minor Raju) obviously had no regrets since the minor prepared tea after he and Akshay cleaned up the bus in Noida after the rape. So they even did not behave like they did something wrong. Second, they were so sure that they will get away with this murder, most of them returned to work the next morning, the two spent the rest of the night watching music channels on television.[1]

Bus driver Ram Singh, known as "mental", also shoved no remorse and was cold in custody according to the police:[2]

"The six men, who allegedly gang-raped a young girl in a moving bus here on Sunday, were apparently so confident they will not be caught that the assailants carried on with their routine chores the next day while one brought back the vehicle to his house. But luck ran out for the men within 24 hours as police, who were aided by the description provided by the victims about the vehicle, zeroed in on them and even arresting one from Rajasthan where he was in hiding.

Rapist Ram Singh told police that when the victim resisted and bit his hand while being assaulted, he lost his cool and went berserk. A drunk Singh picked up an iron rod and hit the two wherever he could. The other accused just followed him. According to the investigating team led by Inspector Anil Sharma, Singh is a cold and remorseless man. "Initially, he denied everything. But when he began to open up, he chose to divulge each detail, with no repentance. Such brutality does not affect him. He tried to destroy evidence by washing the bus with confidence and told his accomplices to not worry, and lie low for some time. He stayed calm when he went and parked the bus in RK Puram, and then took it back to the owner in Noida. The confidence he shows is not of a novice definitely," the officer said, reported TOI.[3]

Until now, Indian government handled the incident very badly. After the rape instead of rolling some official heads (which was not hard given the fact that the bus driver had previously been stopped for illegal passanger pick-up and bus passed 6 polis locations with curtains down or just because of the simple fact that someone know as "mental" and a ticking time bomb was ferrying little kids every other day), they have chosen to supress the protesters.

According to some sources, Delhi rapist Ram Singh first made news way back in 2011 when he appeared on Kiran Bedi’s popular show Aap Ki Kachehri, Season III, demanding compensation for an arm he lost in a bus accident in 2009. At the end of the show, Ram failed to get the `12 lakh compensation he was demanding from Dutt who tagged him a habitual offender and a rash driver. “He was drunk and driving and injured his left arm. He now drives with one hand only,” Ram Singh’s neighbour tells you at the Ravidas Camp in RK Puram from where four of the six offenders in the bus rape case live.[4] And this person was driving school kids every day before his rape!!!

They may at least now punish the rapists severely.

According to the media, their questioning has revealed how most of the accused had a disturbed past which turned them into remorseless human beings. So what? Millions live with disturbed pasts and mental problems on this planet and bravely face the life and they do not group rape a girl and then remove her intestines with an iron rod! Nothing, mental illness, troubled past, alcohol, drug, whatsoever should be mentioned or used as an excuse for these criminals! Their troubled past is as irrelevant to this case as their hair color!

Finnair, the flag carrier and largest airline of Finland, will be the first airline to fly to Xi´an from Europe. Finnair will begin flying to Xi´an in summer 2013, further deepening the airline’s network of Asian destinations. The airline will begin offering the service to Xi´an from its hub in Helsinki with three frequencies per week starting 14 June until the end of the summer season on 26 October 2013. The first direct connection between Xi´an and Europe is Finnair’s latest step toward its goal of doubling Asian revenue by 2020.

“I’m very excited and pleased to announce Xi´an as our fifth destination in China,” says CEO Mika Vehviläinen. “The fast-growing Chinese economy continues to fuel rapid growth in demand for air travel to and from Europe, and to open up new opportunities for Finnair. We have a history of pioneering better connections between Europe and China going back to 1988, when we began flying to Beijing. We look forward to building on that history and offering the quickest and smoothest itineraries between dozens of European destinations and Xi´an.”

Located in central-northwest China, Xi´an is a metropolis of about 8 million people and a growing centre in the development of China’s aerospace and software industries. The city is also an ancient imperial capital and an historic cradle of Chinese civilisation. The world-famous Terracotta Army, the vast collection of burial sculptures found around the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, is located about 40 km to the east of the city centre.

Earlier this year, Finnair became the first airline to directly connect Europe with Chongqing, another fast-growing inland megacity. Elsewhere in China, Finnair also flies to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. A further eight destinations round out Finnair’s Asian network: Bangkok, Delhi, Hanoi, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore and Tokyo.

Finair Airbus A 330
Finair will fly to Xi'an (China) and Hanoi (Vietnam) from Helsinki in 2013.
Finnair earlier announced a new summer connection to Hanoi from 15 June, also with three frequencies per week. Finnair will open flights to Hanoi Vietnam in summer 2013, continuing the airline’s strategic focus on traffic between Asia and Europe. Subject to regulatory approvals, Finnair will become the only European airline to offer a direct connection from Europe to the dynamic capital of Vietnam with a population of 6.5 million.

Finnair earlier announced a new summer connection to Hanoi from 15 June, also with three frequencies per week. Starting on June 14, Finnair will begin service to Hanoi from its hub in Helsinki with three frequencies per week. From Helsinki, Finnair offers connections to more than 60 European destinations. The Hanoi route will be operated during the summer schedule season, which lasts until Oct 27. Finnair is represented in Vietnam by its partner East Sea Travel & Air Service Group.

Finnair will operate to Hanoi with A330 aircraft. The flight time is 10 hrs 10 min from Helsinki to Hanoi and 10 hrs 55 minutes from Hanoi to Helsinki. Finnair does not add its capacity with this route, but will make small adjustments to summer schedules as we start operating the three weekly flights to Hanoi.

Orchard Cineleisure attack

Update: Less than a year after this incident, another Cineleisure slashing occured in June 2013 where an NSF man in his 20s was badly injured.

Update: Two men have been arrested for the attack that took place outside Orchard Cineleisure. After their identities were established, Singapore Police have arrested the men, aged 22 and 23, on Saturday and Sunday during a series of raids. The Police is still investigating if there are others involved in the assault.

It is believed no weapon was used and that the incident was not gang-related.

Thursday night, a man in his 20s was attacked near Orchard Cineleisure's main entrance on Grange Road. The incident took place just outside the mall's 7-Eleven convenience store. The man, who has head injuries, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital and he is in the intensive care unit.

According to a netizen who has witnessed the attack and written on Stomp, the man was attacked by four "well built and heavily tattooed" youths, one of whom was armed with a knife.

"The guy was limp on the ground," said Miss Brenda Ng, 19, who witnessed the incident. "He looked like he was barely breathing. His friend came running dramatically and tried to keep him awake. The friend was shouting something in Malay." It is believed that the youth had been attacked by four others, who were described as being 'well built and heavily tattooed', and one of whom witnesses claimed had a knife. [1]

A witness wrote on yahoo sg: "I was there it was terrible the guy stable the young and skinny guy on the floor
It too terrible, and after he hitter the guy he just walked away like nothing happen,..."[2]

Slashing and attacks among youths are rare in Singapore but they still occur. Back in 2010 in an incident known as 2010 Downtown East slashing, a violent clash between gang members claimed the life of a 19-year-old polytechnic student named Darren Ng.

Santa having his Marilyn Monroe movie moments

After we have met China’s Next Top Model, an old dude who modelled with a a wide range of women’s clothing styles for his granddaughter's online-shop, now we have this: Santa made a brief but memorable appearance at a shopping mall in China to show everyone his new and unfortunate outfit.

The 2.5 m statue depicts Santa reenacting a very famous Marilyn Monroe movie moments from Seven Year Itch where Marilyn's dress blows up as she walks over a subway grate. In front of Dongguan Nan international city mall, a Marilyn Monroe version of Santa Claus has attracted many passers-by. Santa depicted with wind up dresses, exposing white thighs and Blue color small underpants.

The most embarrassing Santa ever! But at least we now know that he is not that fat but his outfit shows him fat.

Chinese have created the most embrassing Santa statue ever.

Cool hotel deals in Asia's cooler regions

Would you like to give a break from Asia’s often warm and humid winter weather and take a getaway to Asia's cooler regions? Then the cool hotel deals in some of Asia's most temperate regions announced by Agoda.com, Asia's leading and fastest growing online hotel reservation service, may be just for you.

No matter if it’s someone who lives in any number of Asia’s steamy capitals, or one of the many visitors from colder regions who aren’t quite ready for the jump in temperature and humidity, spending time in Asia can be a wearying experience. Excursions in low-lying areas, capital cities, islands or beaches can often be an exercise in endurance, as even during the Asian “winter” temperatures can hit 30 Celsius or more.

But there is a way to take a break from the sweltering environment – leave the sweaty markets and concrete jungles behind and escape to destinations that enjoy cooler, more comfortable temperatures.

After all, Asia is home to some of the world’s most imposing mountain ranges – from the Himalayas in Bhutan and Northern Myanmar to Indonesia’s giant Sudirman peaks to the lush, jagged heights of the Hoang Lien Son range in Vietnam, and many of them are dotted with relaxing, scenic towns and villages.

Cameron Highlands Hotels
Cameron Highlands
Thanks to the dramatic geography, anyone staying in these areas will wake up to misty valleys and cool mountain air, with temperatures averaging 15-25 degrees Celsius. Most mountain destinations offer a wide variety of activities on top of visiting local tourist spots, including bird watching, trekking, biking, rock climbing, or simply just strolling around the town checking out markets and making friends with locals.

The Agoda.com specials on the hotels below make a trip to one of Asia’s many mountainous regions an especially easy decision to make. A short stay in any of the towns listed below will be welcome relief to those who live in Asia, and make the temperature difference between home and that island paradise with white sand and blue water a bit easier to take for high-season visitors.
