Singapore Marriott Hotel - 5 star luxury hotel in the middle of Orchard Road

Holiday in Singapore is never complete without a visit to city's shopping disrict, Orchard Road. Indeed, Singapore holiday can be best enjoyed if you stay in Orchard Road. The road and surrounding area is one of the most upscale areas in Singapore and offers many beautiful hotels.

Singapore Marriott Hotel at the junction between Orchard Road and Scotts Road is probably the best located hotel in Orchard Road. The location is almost in the middle of Orchard Road and right next to Orchard Road MRT Station (you can actually go into hotel directly from MRT link) so it is very accessible. The location is not only for shoppers, it is also very good place for business travelers : Orchard Road MRT Station is just 2 stations away from Singapore's Central Business District's Raffles Place MRT Station.

We have stayed here in 2009 and again much later in early 2014. The experience is quite different : Singapore Marriot Hotel was renovated in 2012 and it is now more modern and luxury. The large, comfortable beds, clean and luxurious bathroom and the great view from the rooms (choose a high floor room looking towards the Orchard Road) makes it a special stay.

Marriott is one of the largest hospitality companies in the world. If you would like to take a look at new discounts, voucher codes and deals, you can take a look at http://www.newvoucher.co.uk/retailer-1782-marriott-international-uk-ireland.

Iconic Singapore Marriot Hotel is right in the  middle of Orchard Road and makes it very convenient to move
around in Singapore even under heavy rain.
When we are in there, we had a chance to visit major Singapore attractions : Sentosa Island, Singapore Zoo, Singapore Bird Park and Singapore Night Safari. The hotel's location is very near to the service buses for these attractions so you do not need taxi or MRT. The food in the restaurants are good (breakfast is very good) but if you need suggestions about what to eat, skip Orchard Road and just walk to FarEast-Plaza on Scotts Road. This old and not so bright looking mall has very good restaurants on the higher floors and is a popular place for locals. 313@Somerset food court was also quite nice. We did not like the food courts in Ion Orchard and Ngee Ann City but the restaurants in these two malls are quite upscale and nice.

Singapore Marriot Hotel is neighbour to a building named Shaw House which has a 3D IMAX movie theater. Try to catch a movie there. We also liked the upper floors of Paragon Shopping Mall nearby which had a nice indoor playground for kids and a lot of kid oriented shopping opportunities.

List of Orchard Road Hotels

North of the Singapore River and to the west of the Central Business Districy Orchard Road is the main shopping street of Singapore. It is also the most famous and expensive street in the city state.

Orchard Road is full of large shopping malls and offers luxury shopping and dinning experience. It also offers plenty of luxury hotels and a popular hotel cluster for visitors to Singapore. Since it is quite near the Singapore Central Business district (Orchard Road MRT Station is just 3 stops away from Raffles Place MRT Station), Orchard Road is also popular among business travelers.

Hotels in Orchard Road is significantly more expensive than many other locations in Singapore. If you are not into shopping, SPA and watching movie (pretty much the only activities Orchard Road offers), there are better places to stay in Singapore than here. Cheaper rates on the street usually means very old and decaying hotels with very small rooms.

York Hotel Singapore near Orchard Road

Singapore hotels are expensive and the most expensive ones (in USD 200 ++ range) are on or near Orchard Road and in Marina Bay Area. Still, there are some very nice mid-level hotels (USD 100 - USD 200) around Orchard Road if you are willing to walk a little.

York Hotel on 21 Mount Elizabeth is one such hotel shinning as one of the best mid-range hotel right next to Orchard Road. The prime location of the hotel allows you to walk to Orchard Road MRT Station in just 5 - 10 minutes. The usual non-peak season price for the York Hotel is around USD 150 which is hard to come by in such a prime Singapore location (these are online reservation prices not reception desk prices. For latest discounts, special offers and prices for the hotel check York Hotel Singapore Agoda Page).

York Hotel Singapore appeals to both business and leisure travelers. Orchard Road MRT Station is just a few stops away from Singapore's Central Business District and Orchard Road itself offers many dinning, night life and shopping options. Besides, bus services to many attractions like Singapore Night Safari, Resorts World Sentosa or Singapore Zoo passes through Orchard Road.

The hotel offers 407 rooms in York Suite, Deluxe Suites, Deluxe Rooms, Superior Rooms and Balinese-themed Cabanas. Facilities of the hotel include an outdoor swimming pool, an outdoor Jacuzzi, fitness center, business center and hair salon.

And here is the experience: The location of York Hotel is its best feature. 5 minutes walk and you are on Orchard Road (near Paragon) and a little bit more you are at MRT Station. The service and the personnel are cold but still OK if you do not mind it. The hotel is clean and simple. The rooms are boring and like many aging central Singapore hotels the facilities and rooms show their age and needs an upgrade. Having said that the rooms (Superior Rooms in this case) are quite functional. The breakfast is very simple and the tea and coffee was not good. I would breakfast somewhere else but if you need Western breakfast than you do not have many options outside other than fast food chains.

York Hotel Singapore's main asset is its location near Orchard Road.
The rooms do not have free WI-FI and the WI-FI prices are super-expensive. If you will stay a few days and more, go and get 1GB 1 Week Smartphone card from an operator and use it as hotspot for your computer.

This is definitely not the best hotel option in that price range in Singapore if you really want to stay in a central location like Orchard Road and do not mind an aging hotel, York Hotel is there for you. If not, head to Bugis Area where you can find Ibiz Bencoolen, which I believe the best centrally located Singapore hotel in USD 100 - USD 200 price range. The advantage of York Hotel against some other hotels in this price range is its swimming pool which is quite functional in the hot and humid Singapore stay.

Grand Park Orchard Hotel Singapore Review

There are two things you should consider before deciding Where To Stay In Singapore. First, find out what area is right for you according to your visiting goals and then choose the type of accommodation matching your budget and taste.

If you are in Singapore mainly for shopping and like to stay in a central and 5-Star hotel, a luxurious hotel on Orchard Road among Singapore shopping malls is where you should stay in Singapore. And here we will review Grand Park Orchard Hotel Singapore.

Hotel's facade is quite hidden. It is hard to notice but just behind the fashion retailer Abercrombie & Fitch, right in the heart of Orchard Road and behind a herringbone design exterior glass façade & show-stopping media wall, there is a chich 5-Star hotel named Grand Park Orchard Hotel Singapore.

The hotel is chic and the chic designer interior breaths a new air into your perception starting from the lobby. The same aura will only increase when you get into one of the 308 luxurious rooms and suites the hotel offers.

Park Suite room is ideal for families or those who will have guests when they stay in the hotel. There is a separate living room with quite a space and a 40'' Flat TV where you can host your guests. These rooms also come with a workstation which gives you a PC, fax and a printer.

Grand Park Orchard Hotel
Yes, this is a 5-Star Orchard Road hotel so everything is up to top. You want coffee, you can use the Nespresso machine in the room! The beds are king size, the large marble clad bathroom comes with 2 sinks (so you do not need to queue for the sink), a  bath tube and a glass covered shower.

The location of the hotel is great. It is right next to Paragon Shopping Mall and just on the Orchard Road. Major shopping malls like Paragon, ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City (with its large tenant Takashimaya Department Store), 313 @ Somerset, The Center Point, etc. are all within walking distance. Wait for the late afternoon to walk through Orchard Road.

After all those walking and shopping in hot and humid Singapore, you will need a pool. And Grand Park Orchard Hotel Singapore has "THE" pool.

Grand Park Orchard Hotel Singapore is an Agoda Preffered Hotel which means the hotel consistently offers lowest possible rates, high service standards and consistently scores high ratings from Agoda.com customers.

Shangri-La Hotel Singapore offers Local Teh Tarik Culture At The Lobby

Gain instant insight into Singapore’s local tea culture with daily teh tarik (Malay words for ‘pulled tea’) demonstration by an Indian teh tarik man dressed in traditional hawker attire.  From 5 to 6 p.m., guests at the Tower Wing lobby can enjoy a complimentary glass of teh tarik and assorted nonya cakes for free as an introduction to Singapore’s food culture.

Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore prides itself as an advocate of local culture and ethnic traditions.  This educational Shangri-La experience of freshly made teh tarik and nonya cakes at the lobby aims to bring guests back in time and relive a part of Singapore’s hawker history.

Commonly found in local coffee shops, teh tarik is a popular black tea made with condensed milk.  This hot Indian milk tea, unique to Southeast Asian countries, such as Singapore and Malaysia, derives its name from the repeated tossing from one mug to another with artistic theatrics to create the thick froth.  The tossing also helps thoroughly mix the condensed milk in the tea.

Guests at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore can partake in a piece of street hawker history with the fun and engaging teh tarik man dressed in traditional hawker attire – a white singlet and wrap-around cloth skirt or sarong – serving teh tarik in double-glazed glasses.  The joy of watching a long stream of teh tarik being tossed without spilling is both a novelty and an educational feast of Singapore’s food culture.

Eight different types of colourful nonya kuehs, including Ubi Bingkah (Tapioca Cake), Mini Ang Ku Kueh (Red Tortoise Cake) and Rainbow Kueh Lapis (Rainbow Layered Cake), add authentic flavours to this delightful evening tea experience.

Catch the experience at the Tower Wing lobby of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore from 5 to 6 p.m.
