Now there is one more and cheaper alternative to fly to Nagoya from Kuala Lumpur. Long-haul budget airline AirAsia X has started direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Nagoya (Japan) four times a week using Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route. Kuala Lumpur – Nagoya route makes Nagoya AirAsia X’s third destination in Japan after Tokyo and Osaka.

Hong Kong Airlines flights to Ho Chi Minh City launched

Hong Kong Airlines (香港航空公司) will fly to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam from Hong Kong 3 times weekly according to a statement from the company. Hong Kong-based airline will start flights to Ho Chi Minh City on 17 March 2014 and operate Airbus A320 aircraft on the route on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Hong Kong Airlines already flies to Hanoi 7 times a week, the capital city of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City in the south is the largest city in Vietnam and country's finance, business, culture and trade hub.

"Hong Kong Airlines is delighted to announce the route of Ho Chi Minh City which offers our guests another new gateway to connect between Hong Kong and Vietnam. The new service marks an important milestone of our development in the Vietnamese market, where we operated our first flight to Hanoi in 2010." said Mr. Li Dian Chun, Hong Kong Airlines' Director of Commercial.

Flights to Kalibo Mandalay - Yangon Service by Silkair

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will offer thrice-weekly services to Kalibo in the Philippines through circular-routing flights with Cebu from 27 May 2014, and thrice-weekly circular flights between Mandalay in Myanmar and Yangon from 10 June 2014 subject to applicable approvals.

Kalibo will be SilkAir’s third destination in the Philippines after Cebu and Davao, while Mandalay will be the airline’s second destination in Myanmar after Yangon.

 The new services will be operated with Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy Class cabins.

“As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir plays a role to extend the Singapore Airlines Group network by seeding and developing emerging destinations. We are excited to be adding both Kalibo and Mandalay to our network and are confident that they will be well received,” said SilkAir Chief Executive, Mr Leslie Thng.

The two new services will connect via Singapore to more than 90 cities in the joint Singapore Airlines – SilkAir network.

Kalibo is the capital of Aklan province and gateway to the idyllic Boracay island, which is located off the northwestern tip of Panay. The second largest city in Myanmar, Mandalay is the centre of culture and religion in the country. In Australia, services to Darwin will be increased to five times weekly, a rise from the current four times weekly.

In Indonesia, services to Palembang will be increased to five times weekly and subject to slots approval, services to Balikpapan will also increase from the current six times a week to daily flights.

Dubai based Emirates will start daily flights to Taipei from Dubai on 10 February 2014. The flights, which wil be oprated on Boing 777-300ER, will have eight suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 304 passanger seats for the rest of us in Economy Class.

Passengers can also look forward to gourmet cuisine in all classes, served by Emirates’ multinational cabin crew.

Emirates will begin 2014 with the launch of services to Kiev, followed by Taipei and Boston on 10th March.

8 new weekly flights from Singapore to Bangkok by Jetstar Asia

Singapore based budget airline Jetstar Asia is adding eight additional flights to its weekly schedule between Singapore and Bangkok from 8 July 2013 to cater for increasing demand from leisure and business travellers. According to Jetstar Asia Chief Executive Officer Barathan Pasupathi, Bangkok and more broadly Thailand is one of the biggest market for Jetstar. “We are adding capacity to Bangkok to meet ongoing strong demand from both the leisure market and an increasing number of business travellers attracted to our low fares and our expanding schedule. Last year alone we welcomed 30 per cent more people on this route than in 2011 with more than two million passengers carried. With our new offering of up to five services a day, we can give more choices and better connection times to even more leisure travellers not just from Singapore but transiting through our Singapore hub on other Jetstar services,” Mr Pasupathi said.

Bangkok is worlds number one tourist destination and receives a significant number of tourists from Singapore. Swiss’s flight from Singapore to Zurich, LX 179, departs from Singapore at 23:10 and arrives in Zurich at 06:10 the following day. Passengers of this flight will be able to connect to up to 35 European destinations as well as to attractive destinations at the East Coast of the United States of America like New York or Miami. Flights from Zurich to Singapore, LX 178, will depart from Zurich at 22:45 and lands in Singapore at 17:15 the next day.

Cheapest flights to Sydney from London

Flights to Australia from Europe on the Kangaroo Route are not cheap but travelers have cheaper options on the route to enjoy. According to Bloomberg, China Southern Airlines Co. is undercutting Qantas Airways Ltd. by as much as 34 percent on the cost of Sydney-to-London tickets and from April 1 will operate more flights to Europe than the Australian carrier:

China’s three biggest carriers, including Air China Ltd. and China Eastern Airlines Corp., have tripled flights from Oceania to Europe over the past five years, while upgrading services. The route will provide experience needed for further expansion into North America and Europe as annual spending by Chinese tourists exceeds $100 billion. Qantas is fighting back with discounted fares to Asia. 

“The sheer volumes of travelers mean that eventually China can be the most powerful transit country in the region, probably the world,” Peter Harbison, executive chairman of CAPA Centre for Aviation, said by e-mail. “They will be able to price very, very competitively.”

According to a flight ticket price comperison in the same article, China Southern’s cheapest economy-class fare between Sydney and London for a two-week trip starting May 4 was A$1,442 on travel booking website webjet.com.au yesterday. On the other hand the lowest price for a non-Chinese airline, on Malaysian Airline System Bhd., was 19 percent more expensive at A$1,721. Emirates tickets started at A$1,896 while Singapore Air’s was at A$1,940. The cheapest Qantas ticket was 51 percent more than China Southern, at A$2,180.

Jetstar Asia has welcomed Singapore's first Sharklet-equipped Airbus A320

Singapore based low-cost airline Jetstar Asia has welcomed its first Sharklet-equipped Airbus A320 to its fleet, making the airline the first Singapore carrier with the new fuel saving wing tip devices. The aircraft entered service this week, during Lunar New Year, signalling an auspicious start for the value-based carrier.

The Singapore-registered aircraft is the fifth new A320 to join the airline as part of Jetstar Asia’s fleet renewal program which kicked off in October 2012. Made of lightweight composite materials, the 2.4-meter-tall Sharklets improve the A320’s aerodynamics, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and emissions, resulting in fuel savings of up to four per cent. The wing-tip devices also enhance take-off performance, raise optimum flight altitude, deliver an improved rate-of-climb and a lowering of engine maintenance costs.

Jetstar Asia’s CEO Bara Pasupathi said the improved functions of the Sharklet-equipped A320 are important as the airline continues its fleet renewal program. “Jetstar Asia is very proud to be the first carrier to receive the A320 with Sharklets in the Jetstar Group as well as Singapore. The distinctive wing-tips are a remarkable piece of innovation that brings about higher fuel efficiencies for the airline and helps us deliver on our promise to offer everyday low fares to our customers,” Mr Pasupathi said.

“In addition to the fleet renewal announced in October, we will be taking delivery of two more Sharklet-equipped A320s in Singapore before the end of the year.”

The Jetstar Asia A320 with Sharklets is configured with 180 slim line full leather seats. Jetstar Asia currently operates a fleet of 17 A320s in Singapore.

Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Airways (Australia) will receive A320s with Sharklets in the coming months. Airbus calls blended winglet design on Airbus A320 family aircraft as "sharklet". Sharklets are designed to enhance the payload-range performance of the A320 Family and are expected to result in a reduced fuel burn of at least 3.5 percent over longer sectors, corresponding to an annual CO2 reduction of around 700 tonnes per aircraft.

Emirates makes flights between Dubai and Adelaide non-stop daily services

Emirates is adding three extra flights a week to its popular  Dubai - Adelaide route which will effectively make it a a non-stop, daily service from Dubai to Adelaide. Flights to Adelaide has started just in November 2012 as the 5th Australian gateway for Emirates and this increase came just 3 months after the launch.

The increased volume of flights to Adelaide comes just three months after Emirates commenced its four time a week service to its fifth Australian gateway in November 2012. The additional flights will add 1062 seats operate in and out of Adelaide  per week, carrying an expected 200,000 passengers on the route each year.

“The response since our inception into South Australia has been overwhelming, with current load factors averaging between 85% and 90% throughout December and January,” said, Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Far East & Australasia in the company press release.

“South Australians have been receptive of the new Emirates product and service across all classes. Positive feedback tells us that travellers are impressed with the timely one-stop connectivity to 33 European and over 128 worldwide destinations,” added Mr Obaidalla.

“Interest is particularly high as we enter a new era for Emirates with the Qantas partnership proposal, pending government and regulatory approvals” said Mr Obaidalla.

Trade connections between South Australia and the Middle East are also set to benefit from the airline’s increased flights, with Emirates SkyCargo carrying a range of commercial freight on each flight to and from Adelaide to further boost the state’s manufacturing, agriculture and mining intensive economy.

“Not only will we continue to transport up to 14 tonnes of cargo on each Emirates flight out of Adelaide, our entry into Adelaide and subsequent increase to daily flights represents a 30 per cent capacity increase for the Adelaide passenger market and will boost jobs and investment in South Australia’s AUS$5.3 billion tourism sector ,” concluded Mr Obaidalla.

Emirates operates its 354-seat Boeing 777-300ER  on the popular
13 hour flight between Adelaide and Dubai.

South Australian Premier, Jay Weatherill, said the daily flights were a significant boost for business and tourism. “Adelaide is now a one-stop destination for businesspeople and visitors from many more cities around the world,” Mr Weatherill said.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Emirates and Tourism Australia in promoting what our wonderful state has to offer.” Emirates operates its 354-seat Boeing 777-300ER on the popular 13 hour flight between Adelaide and Dubai, offering eight First Class Private Suites, 42 Business Class lie-flat seats and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class.

Malaysia Airlines baggage allowance is 10 kg more now

Starting from February 14th 2012, Malaysia Airlines passengers will enjoy an additional 10 kilograms free checked baggage allowance and reduced excess baggage charges for travel in all classes. These apply to all travel from this date irrespective of tickets issued earlier reflecting the original lower free allowance.

Under the new Malaysia Airlines baggage allowance guidelines all adult and child passengers can enjoy 30, 40, and 50 kilograms free baggage allowance respectively for travel on economy, business and first class. Charges for checked baggage weights in excess of the new free allowance are now calculated depending on zone of travel with a fixed rate applied for every 5 kilograms of excess baggage weight. The excess baggage rate for each block of 5 kilograms excess weight will be RM 30, RM 60 and RM 90 respectively depending on zone of travel.

In Malaysia, the rate of RM 30 applies for each sector in the zone within Malaysia and the ASEAN countries of Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. RM 60 applies for sectors in the zone beyond Malaysia and ASEAN, covering destinations in India, China, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Australia.

The intercontinental rate of RM 90 will be charged on all travel between Malaysia and the cities of Jeddah, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Istanbul. For return travel from the international cities, the RM value of the applicable zone charge will be converted into the local currency of payment during check-in.

The above guidelines apply only for travel on Malaysia Airlines and does not cover code-share flights as well as travel involving other airlines.

Malaysia Airlines now offers additional 10 kg checked baggage allowances  and reduced excess baggage charges.

Emirates and Qantas unveil frequent flyer benefits

Dubai based Emirates and Australia Qantas has unveiled the details of benefits that will be available to frequent flyers through their proposed partnership.  The Emirates and Qantas partnership, which remains subject to regulatory approval, is designed to offer customers a seamless travel experience across one of the world’s largest networks.  Some of the key benefits that Emirates Skywards and Qantas Frequent Flyer members will be able to access for travel from 31 March 2013 are:

Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points or Emirates Skywards Miles
On Emirates and Qantas flights. (Emirates Skywards members will be able to earn Skywards Miles on Qantas international flights and domestic flights that are part of a continuous international journey with Emirates or Qantas).

An expanded network for members of each program to Earn Qantas Status credits and Status bonus or Skywards Tier miles and Tier bonus

when they travel on codeshare flights. Redeem points/Miles on any part of the Qantas or Emirates network – a combined total of more than 175 destinations worldwide.

Emirates will start Dubai and Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) daily flights

Dubai based Emirates will start daily, non-stop flights between Dubai and Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) on 3rd June 2013. Emirates will operate a three-class Boeing 777-200LR on the route. The flight from Dubai to Tokyo, EK312, will depart Dubai at 0935hrs and arrive at Haneda Airport at 0001hrs the following day. The return flight, EK313, will depart at 0130hrs and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 0705hrs.

Haneda Airport, ranked as the second busiest airport in Asia, will be Emirate's 131st destination. The airport is also Emirate's third gateway in Japan. The airport is located in Ota-ku, Tokyo and handles the majority of domestic flights to and from Tokyo; it opened its doors to international carriers following the opening of the fourth runway and the international terminal in October 2010. Haneda, which will become Emirates’ 131st destination, is currently ranked as the second busiest airport in Asia.


“Emirates has been operating to Japan since 2002 when we introduced non-stop flights to Osaka; our commitment continued when we launched flights to Narita International Airport in 2010. We are confident that the demand in terms of both passengers and cargo is strong enough to warrant Emirates operating non-stop, daily flights to both of Tokyo’s airports, offering our passengers more flexibility on the route to Dubai and onwards to over 70 destinations in the Indian Ocean, Middle East, Africa and Europe,” added Mr Antinori.

Emirates will use a Boeing 777-200LR on Dubai Tokyo (Haneda) route.

Emirates’ longstanding partnership with Japan Airlines will be expanded to include a code share on the new Dubai-Haneda-Dubai services. The flights will be identified with the Emirates ‘EK’ code as well as with Japan Airlines ‘JL’ code.

With the new daily flight to Haneda, Emirates SkyCargo is able to provide an additional 210 tonnes of cargo capacity per week, further supporting Japanese exports of mechanical components, electronic goods and automobile parts, and its imports of gas and oil products. Dubai is an important hub for the re-export of Japanese manufactured products to the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.

Passengers will enjoy unrivalled comfort and amenities on board Emirates' Boeing 777-200LR which is equipped with eight luxurious private suites in First Class, 42 of its latest lie-flat seats in Business Class, and generous space for 216 passengers in Economy Class, along with gourmet cuisine in all cabins which has been tailored to Japanese passengers, served by Emirates’ multinational cabin crew.
