According to F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, fast and furious night life of Bangkok will be more colorful by 2015: Thailand will have a Formula One night race on the streets of Bangkok by 2015. This is one year later than what Sports Authority of Thailand mentioned about the F1 Night Race in Bangkok.
Here is from F1 Adds Bangkok Race to 2015 Schedule article:
Formula One Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone revealed that the 2015 Grand Prix calendar will feature a night race on the streets of Bangkok. Speculation about a Formula One race in Thailand had grown since championship-winner Red Bull Racing carried out a demonstration run through the streets of the nation's capital in December 2010.
Then in October, Kanokphand Chulakasem, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, seemed to confirm the rumors by saying the country would host a race in 2014. He added at the time that he was "working closely with F1 officials to look for the best site."
This night race will rival Singapore's night-time F1 Grand Prix which has been extended until 2017 after months of hard bargaining for cheaper fees. In fact, the announcement by Sports Authority of Thailand came after Singapore has signed the extension. The race in Bangkok, the tourism hub of Thailand and South East Asia, has potential to steal significant number of visitors from Singapore race. The Singapore F1 Grand Prix, one of seven held in the Asia-Pacific region this year, has been watched by more than 360 million TV viewers, according to Singapore government figures.
